Hanayu Ashitaba's the daughter of a renowned pastry chef, and she's expected to take over her family's pastry shop someday. But Hanayu's got a dirty little secret: She's crazy for sushi and dreams of being a sushi chef! In Oikawa High School's culinary arts program, Hanayu meets Hayato, a classmate with the reverse problem: His family runs a well-known sushi restaurant, but he's a secret lover of all things pastry. At first the two have purely selfish reasons for getting to know one another, but eventually they rally around their common cause (i.e. getting out of what their parents' expect them to do!) and become close friends.

Hayato encourages Hanayu to talk to her family about her true ambitions, offering her both sushi treats and moral support. Before long, Hanayu realizes that her feelings for him have become more than just friendly. But Hayato starts acting mysteriously—he won't reveal more about his love for pastries, and he informs their cooking teacher, Miss Matsuzaka, that he plans to have a career in sushi after all, leaving Hanayu confused about his motives and hurt that he won't open up.

When Miss Matsuzaka visits Hayato's family restaurant for a parent conference, she shares an awkward moment with Saki, the assistant sushi chef, who was once her student who has a massive crush on her! Rather than focusing on their schoolwork or sorting out their own relationship, Hayato and Hanayu cook up a wacky scheme to get Miss Matsuzaka and Saki together. Will their extracurricular shenanigans—and poor Saki's predicament—end up bringing Hanayu and Hayato closer?
