Ever since Portuguese traders first introduced the Spanish castella cake (known as kasutera in Japanese) to Japan, people there have adopted Western pastries and candies with enthusiasmand you can see it in manga. Hunny-sempai from The Ouran High School Host Club is a big fan of all kinds of cakes (as well as anything chocolate!) and in Nana, Nana O.’s trademark desert is strawberry cake, and Ren in Skip♦Beat! is crazy for pudding.
