This Beat Girl image is drawn with clarity and the proportion is just right. She looks real and has a sweet face. Dig the hat (and the ice-cream cone!).
—Patricia Shewey, Manager, Advertising & Marketing
by Marian Lutes
This Beat Girl has beautiful eyes. A lot of attention to detail was given to the texture of her outfit, especially her fur boots and knit cap. Coloring a drawing with markers is very difficult to get just right, and this artist nailed it.
—Rachel Lightfoot, Production Assistant

This entry shows a figure in motion—you can see how the Beat Girl's leg arches away from the scratching cat and how her upper body turns in proportion to her legs. You can visualize the before and after action.
—Grant Lowery, Managing Editor
by Allison Louie
The general coloring is well coordinated in warm browns and tans, accentuating the blue eyes, and the use of watercolors and soft shading gives depth. Plus, the inking is clean and precise.
This Beat Girl has great fashion sense! There's some unusual print and shading on the dress, with lots of detail around the frills and a matching scarf. She even has a cool choppy, flipped hairdo.
—Cecilia Kojima, Magazines Coordinator

The colors are so vibrant here, especially in the hair, which has a sparkling texture. The shading and use of color are also very bright and lively. Beat Girl's super-dynamic pose captures her movement without looking awkward; this illustration has a great sense of energy. Her accessories are also very cool—bonus points for drawing a Moko backpack!
—Kam Li, Lead Designer
by Sarah Marvin
This Beat Girl's face is drawn simply and well, with an inquisitive expression that makes you wonder what she's thinking about. Figuratively, the proportions here are about right (with the elongated legs of a shojo manga character), and this outfit, with its multiple cutouts, beads and patterns, is just incredible. The white boots with blue laces give this Beat Girl an extra kick.
—Megan Bates, Senior Editor

I like that this Beat Girl has pink hair, a big fuzzy coat and snowflakes falling all around her. The star accessories on her coat and jeans were a good choice to enhance the ambiance of the image as a whole. In terms of illustration technique, I can tell that this creator has talent and potential. Plus, this Beat Girl has big, manga-like eyes!
—Yukie Kurihara, Magazines Project Associate

There is so much going on in this piece. Rather than just an exercise in character drawing, this piece is so rich in little details that it demands its story be told. There is so much expression in the Beat Girl's face. Something is up with that dog, which is humorously frozen still.
Long after I fell in love with this piece I realized that the little bird's eye is a dastardly shape and shade of red, a hint of darkness in an otherwise glorious day.
—Marc Weidenbaum, Editor-in-Chief
by Katarina Yang
The way this Beat Girl looks directly at you with a playful wink and pointed finger is immediately engaging and inviting. Her head-to-toe accessories are fun and really help fill out this Beat Girl's back story. Her orange sneakers really pop!
—Erica Yee, Associate Editor
by Christy Johnson
This Beat Girl has a clever, witty pose and an expression that is reminiscent of other manga heroines who've been featured in Shojo Beat. She's sporting an amazing outfit, and we like that she's not super-skinny!
